In the world of robot vacuums, ‘affordable’ is a relative term. Top of the line models can sell for in excess of £700 and none can yet fully see you retire your manual vacuum. Of course significant performance and battery life improvements in recent years mean they can be superb accessories, scheduled to do regular cleans that relegate your vacuum to a bit part role, but they remain luxury items at luxury prices. iRobot, however, is working on that.
The newly launched iRobot Roomba 600 series won’t achieve this in a single step, but what it does do is bring previously premium performance to a line of machines that start at under £300. The iRobot Roomba 620 is the entry level model in this range and we let it get its brushes dirty.
iRobot Roomba 620 Design
The first thing that becomes apparent when you take the iRobot Roomba 620 out the box is it has had a style makeover. The whole look is more rounded, with the machine’s circular design now complemented by cleaner lines which drop the straight angles that had outlined the bumpers, dirt bin and more. Instead, every join is curved and every knob or button accented by soft circular or semi circular boarders. Combined with a more colourful finish the overall effect is slightly cartoonish, but it is also more modern and we’d expect iRobot to carry on this design approach with other lines as they are replaced in time.
iRobot Roomba 620 Features
Where things become most interesting, however, is in the amount of technology now packed into this base model. At the core of the iRobot Roomba 620 features list is an updated version of iAdapt, iRobot’s proprietary system of software and sensors, which incrementally learns the layout of your rooms and makes multiple passes for a more comprehensive clean.
On top of this you’ll find ‘Dirt Detect’ which uses an acoustic sensor to locate dirtier areas and spend more time cleaning them. The same patented three stage cleaning system as found on flagship Roombas is also aboard making it equally happy cleaning carpets, tiles, laminate and hardwood flooring. In addition, the company has stated that all iRobot Roomba 600 series models will more effectively handle hair, pet fur, lint, carpet fuzz and other fibres than previous generation robots.
‘Aerovac’ is a further smart technology passed down from the iRobot Roomba 780 and coupled with a new brush (designed to minimise the amount of the hair caught in the brushes) it optimises airflow so the bin fills more evenly letting it be emptied less. Other core functionality carried over from past models included step detection and automatic docking when it has finished cleaning or the battery is low.
Roomba Gets Amazon Alexa-Powered Voice Control
Roomba vacuum cleaners just made a new friend: Amazon Alexa.
iRobot, the company behind Roomba, on Wednesday announced that its robotic vacuum cleaner now plays nice with Amazon's virtual assistant, which powers the company's Echo speakers. This means, if you have an Alexa-enabled device plus a Roomba, you can now start, stop, and pause cleaning jobs with simple voice activated commands like "Alexa, ask Roomba to begin cleaning."
The new Alexa skill for Roomba vacuuming robots will be available in the US in the second quarter of the year, iRobot said. This feature will work with any connected Roomba vacuum, such as the Roomba 900 Series.
You can also now learn more about cleaning jobs via the iRobot Home app for iOS and Android devices. A new Clean Map feature will show you where the Roomba 900 Series cleaned up, how long it spent on the job, and which areas of your floor were the dirtiest. These "post-cleaning reports" will be available in the History tab of the app. Plus, the app will also now send you push notifications when the robot is finished cleaning.
Meanwhile, if you have an Amazon Echo device, you might be excited to hear that it can now connect to any Bluetooth speaker, according to Pocket Lint. Previously, this feature was only available on the smaller Echo Dot . As the site points out, this will let you stream music from a speaker with better audio quality than Echo while still taking advantage of the voice control features and other capabilities Alexa offers.

Roomba 876 Staubsauger Roboter Review
The Roomba 876 Staubsauger Roboter offers as much as 50% more cleansing efficiency (as compared to 600, as well as 700 series) as well as is the best companion for day-to-day cleaning. It is not until the normal cleansing that the dust or dust deposits happen. Roomba 876 repetitively cleans up every location of the floor. Many thanks to the 3-step AEROFROCE innovation, particularly strong cleansing outcomes are accomplished. A mix of side brush, recording rollers and also suction power takes in any sort of dust. Thanks to the side brush, corners as well as edges are cleansed in addition to surfaces. The rubberized recording rollers are essentially maintenance-free. They don’t have the big advantage of matting. Simply press tidy and also Roomba 876 begins cleaning. He then mosts likely to his billing terminal to recharge for the next use.
Benefits: Much quieter compared to a typical vacuum, Shedule function, area mode, crash defense, HEPA filter, cleans up really extensively, comes well in hard-to-reach locations (couch). Roomba is a super budget assistant, but when you buy it you have to understand that it could not replace a normal vacuum cleaner, but this could not be a suction robotic. You still need the’ regular vacuum cleaner’ for shelves/cupboards and stairways. We have parquet flooring or floor tiles throughout the home and also with that said he comes super clear. Particularly under the couch he sucks very. The Roomba 876 Staubsauger Roboter is just what he spends for. With a typical hoover you always needed to stoop down, which is currently background. It additionally grabs great particulates and very little fragments much better than the regular hoover and the corners sucking it out incredibly. The only drawback is that it is extremely uncommon (yet it still takes place occasionally) the station does not discover instantly, so it could be that he passes 3 to 4 times at the station prior to he lastly docks, but it never lasts longer than 5 mins (but this is in no way disturbing). Additionally our feline, that has actually always run away prior to our regular hoover, oversleeps her basket even more while the Robooter at a range of regarding 10 cm passes past her head.
The accumulating container appears to have regarding a third or quarter of the components of the hoover bag-it is demonstrably identifiable that it collects much more dirt compared to the vacuum, whose bag we just alter 1 x a month, till then 3 times a week have sucked.
We would absolutely not give Robby anymore. While we were usually punished for all the stall job, that we constantly drag dirt as well as dust right into the vestibule and from there undoubtedly have thought about it in the house and as the most sensible option an increasing number of to a maid (sucking at 300 sqm costs the last book), unexpectedly all worries as well as hardships have disappeared. Robby has been a family member for 3 weeks and cleans inside your home while we work outside. Roomba 876 Staubsauger Roboter is sensationally good-and for the first time in 2 years there has been full leisure on our huge farm. Overall, the suction robot is extremely suggested, specifically for allergy victims as well as livestock.

__a) Disconnect and store the Home Base out of sight.
__b) Get a rough idea whether the PSU is outputting enough power to effect some charging, by temporarily contacting a household lamp (bulb) to its live dc-power plug. Use a 60W to 100W, incandescent light bulb. Hold the coaxial plug's outer barrel in one of the candelabra-base screw-thread grooves, while touching a short jumper wire between the plug's center-contact and the bulb's central contact. If the filament glows red (it won't be bright), that will demonstrate the PSU is somewhat capable of passing current through a Roomba battery. If that check works OK, proceed to (c)
__c) Plug the charging-PSU in Roomba's side charging jack and test for proper charging activity.
Doing that same setup with a 5XX battery will be more trouble/tricky, and there are more possibilities for you to wreck something -- so don't proceed w/o first getting, and understanding additional instructions. You will need to know how to use that DMM for this work.
__a) Search for universal , and read a few words about your PSU.
__b) Search for Err5 , and read about things that cause that error. You will see that a hot PSU might withdraw (alluded) from charging and cause the 30-minutes time-out due to proper charging current not being maintained.
__c) Find and learn how to run the BiTs (Built-in-Tests), since that will become necessary if the PSU can be given a clean bill of health.

I have used it with the appliances I purchased while living there since 2005 without problems. And no, its not heavy at all! I guess that means the original PSU had a problem…

vic has the plus terminal marked (+), but you can tell visually by noting the 9mm diameter raised contact that is surrounded by a white insulator. The other contact is the butt end of the neighbor cell.

15-minutes. However, IF current is greater than two amps, charge for
5 minutes. Note: The battery contains a 4A (resettable) polymer-fuse. Even if the laptop-PSU feeds its full current into the battery, I would not expect the fuse to open for many tens of (maybe a hundred) minutes. That data can be looked up.

having the same problem as the original poster so i though i would revive this thread instead of starting a new one. I get a charge error 5 after about 30mins of charge on the base. My 550 charges fine plugged in and i get about 1 hour and 1/2 of run time. I have checked the voltage from the power supply and it is about 22.45V with a DMM. THen voltage is about 2.8V at the base with no load on it. I am going to conect some wires to the base while the roomba is charging from the base so i can get a reading on the DMM. I assume i should get about 22V from the DMM while the roomba is charging on the base?

1st time robot owner. Great vacuum, works surprisingly well
Been interested in one of these but waited years until they worked the bugs out of these little vacuum robots. Our small 1 story house has laminate throughout with some low height throw rugs so ideal for a vacuum robot. I was very skeptical all along but much to my surprise this little helper turned out to work surprisingly well. It does everything as advertised and fills its debris bin every time. We use it several times a week to touch up the floors. Our house is new and the landscaping is not complete so we track in allot of dirt and pine needles etc into our house. Throw in a short hair dog and dust settling on the floors, so needs attention often. The robot gets all that along with the dust bunnies that seem to multiply on their own. It’s a constant battle and this vacuum robot is certainly turning into a useful weapon in the war against dirt, fir needles, hair and bunnies. I especially like how it gets under most of our furniture and sucks up everything hiding there. It has only gotten stuck once, wedged under under a dresser that’s about 1/4” to low. No big deal but did put a scrape along the top of the robots finish. Wish the storage bin was bigger and longer battery life so it could keep going longer, but it more than meets my expectations. The new model has wifi but we figured it was unneeded and added complexity to what is dead simple to operate. Oh and it’s amusing to watch it going about it’s business. It seems happy vacuuming along lol. Recommend!

Good for the less tech savvy
I bought this for my parents with the hope that it would take little intervention on their part. My expectations were mostly met. Slight problem of the spinning brush thinking it's stuck on carpets which are close to shag - but this is understandable. So I advised to keep the doors to this room closed. Otherwise - quite impressed with autonomy, range of exploration with the lighthouses, as well as cleaning ability. Very good price at RobotShop too.
Product Satisfaction
This is our second roomba.. our first one was not in a surge protector.. and was zapped. Took a while to replace because the prices have gone up so much. That being said they work excellent. If you don't like pushing a vacuum. They're the way to go.
I don't find the vacuum stuck under anywhere, including my awkward shaped music stand. a bit noisy, but if you stay in another room you don't hear much. Overall it's a great investment.

Impressive!
Our floors are amazingly free of dust and grit. The "wall" and "lighthouse" are great tools also. I would give the Roomba 880 a 5 but our rugs, which have black patterns with other colors, get it so confused it just stops and gives up. Otherwise, a great machine.

He caved and I got the pup!!
We compromised and got the roomba! It is set to run nightly at 10pm and you wouldn't believe he dog hair it picks up! So he gets his clean house and I got the puppy!

Impressive!
The Parcel arrived right on time and the service and warranty are the best. The Roomba is working marvellously. Thanks.

Great Product
Love my Roomba! Easy to set up and cleans my house perfectly!!
Exceeded our expectations
We love the 880… It seems to get all the super fine particles the vacuum leaves behind. We still use our Sears canister for big or hurry jobs. But on a new rug, after being vacuumed with a new bag, we let Alice (I mean the 880 we nicknamed her) go over the same area. In 30 mins the bin was half full of very fine dust that the vacuum left behind… And we cleaned the area really good, so we were not only very surprised, but delighted. Fact is, each time we use her we're delighted.
If it gets stuck in the same spot, like under a chair behind a door… put down a soup can. She'll bump off.
Logic dictates that a small floor vacuum won't keep your entire house clean. You still need a big vacuum. But the 880 does a great job keeping the floors clean. We are very happy with our investment.
(Posted on 2/24/16)
It incredibly useful
I clean the brushless rollers of the 880 daily, too, but they are very easy to clean. I pull the yellow bearings off the ends to clean out the dog hair that is wrapped around the axle, too. I take the wheel out and get the dog hair off the ends of the metal axle, and about once a week push the metal wheel axle out and get the dog hair that is stuck in the middle. I unscrew the side brush and get the hair off of it/out from under it when needed. So it's not really "low maintenance" - I still empty the bin daily and clean the rollers and wheel daily, but it is less of a hassle with the brushless rollers.
Pros of the Roomba are easy - it is a robot that does your vacuuming for you! Amazing. Worth it.The house is waaaay cleaner than it would be if we didn't have one. Plus, we keep things picked up to be out of its way, so it has made us neater, too. Okay, onto some nit-picking now!

Works well
A bit expensive but works well. Sometimes has trouble getting back onto its base.

Works well
Bought it for my parents for Xmas. Works well. Comes out when scheduled and their carpets are now a lot cleaner! Sometimes has trouble getting back on its base. Has gotten stuck between chairs under the dining room table before.

Good helper
I was septic about having a automatic vacuum cleaner since I have a Bouvier Bernois, a 95 pounds dog with long hair.
I am more than satisfy with the Roomba 880, my floor is clean. The only thing; don't forget to empty the dirt receptor of the Roomba, once a day.

Who needs dyson. Love love love my Roomba 880.
Amazing vacuum, my carpets look much newer, it picked up so much hidden dirt it's so amazing, the first day i used it upstairs ( bedrooms), i had to empty it's bin at least 5 times , it was filling up so quickly from dust under our beds and everywhere else, so amazing, even though We vacuum with our dyson every weekend.
Robot shop is the place to buy it from, free delivery and free five years warranty, how can you lose with that.
And customer service is so fast and amazingly helpful.
Roomba 880 is much more powerful than any previous model, and easier to maintain, you basically never have to clean it's brushes.
By the way , I also own Roomba 510, since 2008, but it doesn't even compare to the new 880 model.
(Posted on 11/10/15)
a $700 disappointment.
I recommend against buying this unless you have a round room with no furniture (a small on at that). I put off this review so I had 2 months to report on.
(Posted on 6/13/15)
Much better than 780
Much less noise than 780. Ten times easier to clean. Transformer is integrated into charger, and is worldwide compatible (110V/220V). Power cord is standard and can be replaced with local plug. If you have the extra money, definitely go with 880.
(Posted on 5/25/15)
Excellent Buy
After initial charging this 880 worked great in a large open-concept kitchen/living room. Virtual wall kept it in the target area. The 880 operates at about 70 decibels, which is OK. It easily navigates among chairs, bar stools, and other furniture. Emptying the dust bin is easy and quick. A great buy for dealing with the food crumbs from guests who insist on eating chips and snacks without using plates.
(Posted on 5/20/15)
We love our Roomba 880 vacuum cleaner. The service was prompt and it was easy to set up and use. I would recommend this product to anyone

Giggles does the job
I am totally thrilled with my iRobot Roomba 880 Vacuum Cleaner. I call it "Giggles" because I sit on the couch and watch it work for me and it makes me just giggle. It does a terrific job on my carpets and ceramic tile.

Great replacement for Roomba 550
Have had the Roomba 550 for about 7 years with a large golden retreiver who lived in the apartment--worked very well. When that Roomba died we replaced it with the 880. I was bothered by the price increase but the marked decrease in noise, the gentle approach to walls (no more scuff marks) and the significantly better performance on carpets have all made it worthwhile. Still a delight, easy to clean out and minimizes need for hand vacuuming. Improved performance of virtual walls has been a pleasant surprise.
(Posted on 3/24/15)
Great price!
I am very happy with my RobotShop purchase. I am especially happy with the extra warranty coverage that RobotShop provides for my purchase. They also had the best price on my Roomba
(Posted on 2/25/15)
works great
The roomba 880 really works well. I'm stunned by the amount of dust that ends up in its trash bin. The one thing I don't like is that it bumps into furniture. I'm not sure why it doesn't just depend on its other sensors.
(Posted on 2/24/15)
love my Roomba
Very fast delivery. My roomba is the best! Great cleaning and he's adorable too
Excellent product at reasonable price and great dealing with vendor representatives. Also a great warranty period
The vacuum is outstanding and was acquired at a reasonable price. Dealing with vendor representatives on the phone was great - they we're very helpful and caring. The additional warranty offered (up to 5 years) at no additional cost was also outstanding. My wife and I are very satisfied with the product!
Great product
It does everything it is supposed to do. Depending on the size of your rooms and the layout of your house you need to make a plan on where is going to be "deployed". But besides that, we really like it.
(Posted on 1/21/15)
More than a novelty!
Seems to be learning the shape of the room including obstacles. Roomba is making it back to the charger more often than not now. Was finding it under the dining table previously out of battery. Amazing how much dust there is in the room at least how much this little guy picks up.
(Posted on 12/14/14)
Somehow the Roomba really is learning our room. We have it running twice/week. There is still novelty value involved here. But after a while, it is actually helpful.

iRobot Roomba 880 Vacuum Cleaning Robot
I purchased this product for my wife after considerable research of the produce.
We have five rescue dogs in living in our home with us. They shed and track in dirt, leaves, grass, and hair. The 880 was designed for this application based on the product website information so I purchased one.
Our product came with two virtual walls and an extra filter.
After programming the daily schedule we set it on the charger to start its initial charge.
The machine started the next day as scheduled and got stuck under one of our sofas, the machine stopped to avoid damage which was great. We restarted the machine and it got tangled up in some wiring that was on the floor, it again stopped which saved the machine and the wiring.
We have now moved the wiring off the floor and barricaded the one sofa and all is well.
The machine went into the pantry pushed the door closed and could not get out probably because it was to short to reach the door knob and because we hadn't set up the Virtual Wall device. Once that was do all was well again. The two Virtual Wall accessory solves all of the access issues for us.
In summary this is a great device it works well although there is a learning curve for its owner meaning the machine isn't the problem its the owner.
How does it clean? Well let me tell you its amazing it picks up both the dirt you knew you had and the dirt you didn't know you had. Because of the cleaning efficiency you need to clean the filter after each cleaning session and wash the filter out every week.
My wife is very satisfied with the product although that does not always apply to me.
If you get one you will be amazed!
Good auto-cleaning! ET

Very excellent product, Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars because it has trouble getting back to dock to recharge sometimes. Sweeps awesome! Love it!
Saves on the back when trying to sweep under furniture with regular upright sweeper.

Cleans great and easy maintenance!
The 880 is a huge improvement over past roomba models. The vacuum picks up all the dirt and sand and pieces of grass my three large dogs bring inside every day. I have it scheduled to clean every day at 6 pm. It cleans the living room, dining room, kitchen, and family room and goes back home to charge. I have to put it in the back bedrooms and start it there since it never goes back there on its own (I have one of the lighthouses across the door to the hallway). It can get stuck if it comes at my tv stand just right and jams its bumper under the bottom shelf. It has also eaten a cord for a phone charger and couldn't untangle it and broke the cord. It has done well spitting out the sheer curtains when it gets to those so far. The new bristle free brushes are great! Picks up everything from the floor and 100% easier to clean. The five year warranty from robot shop is what sold me.

Awesome cleaning performance. Saves allergies, but not necessarily time.
Short version: Vacuuming frequency has gone from bimonthly to daily thus not saving time, but significantly improving allergies. Cleaning performance is phenomenal and maintenance is pretty easy. Plan to move robot to bedrooms manually, but schedule it to take care of larger family rooms. Robotshop is awesome.
We have a two cat household, with about 1800 square feet of floor to clean. The Roomba far surpassed our expectations on cleaning performance. However, I thought it would be able to do the entire house on it's own. This is not the case. With the accompanying light houses, it can successfully take care of our two living rooms and our dining room automatically via the programmed schedule. All the other rooms including the kitchen, hallway, bedrooms and office require us to move the robot to the room and let it loose. It has never gotten stuck for me and does a decent job avoiding most obstacles.

Roomba 880 - Where have you been all my life
First all, RobotShop delivered this item immediately and was packaged well. The setup of the 880 was easy and straight forward. I run the Roomba 3 days a week and it does an exceptional job of cleaning. The only regret I have is not ordering one of these sooner! Thanks RobotShop!

Can't live without it now!
I love my Roomba. He is very dependable. At first I needed to clean the dust bin mid-cycle, but now Roomba has my house clean so the bin only gets 20% filled each cycle. The hepa-filter is very good. I do not know how I ever got along without my Roomba. I have more time for other things and my dust problem is gone.

Wonderfull
My robot has worked out wonderfully. Great price and great quality!

I rarely give a 5, this is a 5!
I was skeptical about the Roomba 880. I had previously owned a Samsung Navigation and didn't use it much because of it's in ability clean. I have 2 shedding dogs that I can't keep ahead of and was getting frustrated by daily vacuuming. I have had the 880 running daily for 3 weeks now on my combination laminate, area rug, and broadloom and I haven't bothered with manual vacuuming because it does such a good job.
Awesome! This one is something special, thanks Irobot.

Great product and warranty
The roomba 880 is working great and I know if I have any trouble the robotshop can fix it. That is the reason I bought this vaccum from RobotShop

I love this little robot!
I was skeptical at first before I tried the Roomba 880 that it would really keep my floors clean. But I really needed help with cleaning and I have allergies as well. I have carpet, tile, and wood flooring that needs cleaning daily. On my first cleaning with Roomba, the trash bin would fill up before it cleaned one room, but it did an amazing job of cleaning! Now, I clean my floors daily, not the whole house, mind you, but one room at a time, and I don't have to empty the trash bin as often. But I declare, my carpets have not been so clean since they were new! They seem to be even cleaner than when I shampoo my carpet! I love to walk around barefoot just to feel my plush clean carpet between my toes! And my house even has a fresher scent!

Huge Improvement Over 770
I had always sworn by the performance of the 770 since I got my dogs as it was the only way I could keep up with the dust and hair.

I assume i should get about 22V from the DMM while the roomba is charging on the base?

iRobot Roomba vs. iRobot Scooba
The iRobot Roomba and iRobot Scooba both offer a unique approach to cleaning floor surfaces. The iRobot Roomba offers the ability to vacuum, while the Scooba provides the capacity to scrub floor surfaces. Both machines clean floors without human assistance, but their features offer a large difference in convenience options. Consumers considering either of these automatic floor cleaners need to compare each device before deciding which is right for their home.
iRobot Roomba
Using advanced technology to remove dirt, dust, pet hair, and other debris from the floor surface on its own, the iRobot Roomba is an automatic vacuum cleaner requiring little to no human assistance to clean a floor in a single room or an entire home. The vacuum sits snuggly in a charging base, and when the consumer is ready for it to start cleaning, he or she simply needs to turn it on. The user can set the Roomba for automatic cleaning through the scheduling feature.
The iRobot Roomba traps dirt in a HEPA filter bin to remove particles and allergens from the air. The cleaning behavior can be set to normal cleaning mode or spot cleaning for a more intense cleaning in a concentrated area. Larger rooms use the normal cleaning mode feature, while smaller, dirtier areas use the spot clean setting. The Roomba uses smart sensors of infrared light to avoid obstacles, prevent falls, and to ensure every reachable inch of a room is clean.
iRobot Scooba
The iRobot Scooba uses advanced technology to scrub floor surfaces on its own. Similar to the Roomba, this automatic cleaning device removes dirt and stuck-on messes from floors. Using maximum cleaning performance to scrub floors without human assistance, the Scooba sweeps, presoaks, scrubs, and squeegees hard floor surfaces.
Offering a variety of unique features for optimal cleaning performance, the Scooba is easy to use and requires only the tank filled by the consumer and the cleaning setting chosen. The iRobot Scooba offers a 20-minute cleaning setting for smaller jobs and a 40-minute cleaning setting for larger jobs. Consumers can use just water in the unit or the special iRobot hard floor cleaner solution.
Compared Convenience Features
Both the Roomba and the Scooba offer convenience to consumers. One of the main convenience features that they both share is their automatic cleaning ability. The Roomba requires much less human interaction than the Scooba, but both are capable of cleaning large areas without the consumer ever picking up a vacuum, broom, or mop. Consumers find in the chart below different convenience features of the iRobot Roomba and iRobot Scooba.
iRobot Roomba
iRobot Scooba
Users can select normal clean mode, spot cleaning mode, or scheduled cleaning mode
Users can select 20-minute cleaning setting or 40-minute cleaning setting
Users can schedule automatic cleanings up to seven times a week
The Scooba is not capable of automatic scheduled cleaning times
Roomba returns to the docking station automatically to charge after a cleaning cycle
Scooba requires the user to plug it in manually after a cleaning cycle
Setup and interaction during cleaning
Roomba does not require any set-up preparation
Large areas may require the user to empty the bin during the cleaning cycle
Scooba requires the user to fill the tank before a cleaning cycle
Large areas may require the user to empty the dirty water tank during the cleaning cycle
All parts are marked in yellow that require regular maintenance and cleaning
All parts are marked in yellow that require regular maintenance and cleaning
Both machines require some interaction during their cleaning cycles, but their convenience features are similar. The Roomba is capable of cleaning hard floor surfaces as well as carpets, but the Scooba is not capable of cleaning carpeted floors.
