Over the past decade, Dyson has drastically changed how Americans think of vacuum cleaners—in that Americans now actually think about vacuum cleaners. Thanks to the British company's unique products and marketing efforts, customers ask questions about suction and filtration, don't think twice about paying upwards of $500 for a vacuum, and expect a unique design that focuses on features.

The company's latest vacuum—the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal+Allergy (MSRP $699)—is the next logical step for Dyson's bagless upright lineup: bigger and better. The titular Big Ball makes this vacuum three pounds heavier than the Dyson DC65 Animal, but adds stability for maneuvering around corners and furniture without tipping. Combine that with a well-designed brush head, and the Cinetic can easily run circles around most uprights.

Some Dyson vacuums we've tested in the past have exhibited performance that doesn't quite live up to their impressive design and high prices, but this Dyson matches its beauty with brawn. It's not quite the best vacuum we've ever tested, but it does have the best price-to-performance ratio of any Dyson we've tested. As an added bonus, this vacuum comes with every accessory under the sun: From a dedicated mattress tool to a carbon fiber wand, this Dyson packs them all into a carrying bag.

If you're looking for a thoughtfully engineered vacuum cleaner and are willing to pay top dollar, the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball is worth checking out. And if you're interested in this model minus its overwhelming arsenal of accessories, you can purchase the Dyson Cinetic Animal for $599.

Goes around furniture, but not always under it

The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball tips the scales at 19.4 pounds—an intentional heft that Dyson says gives the cleaner better stability. Indeed, it feels a lot lighter when you're cleaning, and the Big Ball and adjustable head let you pivot on a dime. That being said, it's all fairly difficult to haul upstairs, especially since most of its mass is distributed near the floor.

The large ball also makes it difficult for this vacuum to clean under furniture. If you have a sofa that stands four inches off the ground, you'll only be able to reach five inches underneath before the bottom of the sofa obstructs the vacuum head. Even when you boost the clearance up to 12 inches, the Big Ball can only reach in 15 inches.

If you live in an apartment with minimum clutter, this Dyson will suit you well. The long, 35-foot power cord means you can easily cover a 950 square-foot room without the need to replug.

Accessories

Accessories: All of Them

The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball has all the accessories, and I mean all of them. In the box, we counted a total of eight different attachments. The Tangle-Free Turbine and the Reach Under tool stand out the most. The Tangle-Free Turbine tool gets its name from two counter-rotating brushes that keep it from clogging with hair. The Reach Under tool is a hooked dusting brush that helps you reach under beds and couches.

In addition to those two, the Big Ball also comes with a Stair tool, a Combination tool, a Multi-angle Brush, a Carbon Fiber Soft Dusting Brush, and an accessory bag to carry them all in.

But while the accessories are comprehensive, they're also quite small. The Mattress tool measures the widest amongst them at seven inches. You'll probably be using the Tangle-Free brush the most, but it too is compact–measuring around 5 by 3 inches. That size essentially limits it to cleaning car mats, stairs, and upholstery. Like many Dyson accessories, these feel well-built, but they lack the size to tackle huge tasks.

Cleaning Performance

The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball's raw test scores were very encouraging. It did very well removing dirt from both high-pile and normal carpet. During our tests on normal carpet, this Dyson picked up 62% of all the dirt we left out for it. On high pile, it sucked up 18%–higher than the 16.2% average of all the vacuums we've tested. Edge cleaning was also superb.

Its brush head did have trouble with large debris like macaroni and cat hair, leaving behind about a quarter of the macaroni and rice we distributed on the floor for our tests. Because the brush was so low to the ground it had a tendency to push large debris around rather than suck it up. On the plus side, the low profile of the self-adjusting head allows the Big Ball to seamlessly switch from deep carpet to bare floor cleaning.

Conclusion

Among the best

In terms of pure suction, the Big Ball easily ranks within the top five percent of all vacuums we've tested. But how does this Dyson look in context? Two competitive uprights come to mind: the Kenmore 31150 and the Miele S7260.

The Kenmore matches or beats the Dyson in every cleaning performance category, but retails for $279–less than half of what the Dyson costs. But the Big Ball's accessories, handling, and fit and finish far outclass the Kenmore. The Miele, on the other hand, costs $50 more. It has slightly better cleaning performance, but demonstrated superior handling in our tests. So you can pay a little more and get it all, or you can save a lot and get just the cleaning performance.

If you're a fan of Dyson's filterless and bagless system, the Cinetic Big Ball is the bee's knees. If you want a single vacuum to clean your car, bed, and floor of course, the Big Ball has accessories for that. With some focus on cleaning performance, some on handling, and some on features, the outcome is a high-end all 'rounder.

Die haben ein längeres Staubsaugerrohr und den neuen Behälter, der sich beim entleeren im gleichen Zug auch reinigt. Das ist für Tierhaarstaubsauger richtig super! Ich habe zwei Modelle schon gesehen: Dyson Big Ball und Dyson Cinetic Big Ball. Da gibt es dann wieder die Modelle in den Variationen der Ausstattung: z.B. Animal, Allergy usw.

Neben den Small Ball Modellen gibts die beiden Big Ball und dyson cinetic Bigball. Aber auch noch den dc33. Der neue Behälter ist an allen ausser dem 33. Da der neue Behälter für Allergiker so praktisch. würd ich den Cinetic Big Ball kaufen. Alle anderen sparen Geld mit dem dc33.

big ball von dyson hat sich inzwischen bewährt. habe den jetzt etwa 4 monate. das ist echt komfortables staubsaugen damit.

gibt es in deutschland demnächst auch den neuen dyson cinetic big ball animal plus allergy? welches ist der beste Tierhaar-Staubsauger von dyson? dc52 oder cinetic big ball oder V6 animalpro?

Der beste Tierhaarstaubsauger ist ganz bestimmt der neuste Dyson Cinetic Big Ball. Ich hab den auf der Messe schon ausprobiert. Die Behälter Entleerung ist jetzt fast schon perfekt. Da kommt keine andere Marke zur Zeit mit. Bosch oder Dyson? Ab sofort hat Dyson mit den Big Ball Modellen wieder die Nase vorn.

Ab wann gibt es die Cinetic Big Ball Neuheit denn auf dem Markt zu kaufen?

Der Dyson Big Ball und der Cinetic Bigball ist in allen Geschften und auch Online inzwischen verfügbar.

bei den dc52 kann man noch die alte Turbodüse nachbekommen, welche Bürste ist beim cinetic big ball dabei?

Tipp: Dyson Bigball Multifloor / Multifloor+ ist das Modell mit dem besten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Hab ich mir kürzlich bestellt und bin sehr zufrieden!

The Good The Dyson Ball Allergy (formerly known as the DC65 Animal) vacuums even better on carpets than the DC41 that came before it, with improved airflow and a more powerful brushroll.

The Bad Annoying design issues that plagued the usability of the DC41 linger through to the Ball Allergy. Most notably, the vacuum clicks into its upright position, but it doesn't always stick and can come crashing to the floor.

The Bottom Line The DC41's design disappointed us, and the Ball Allergy's isn't any better. Despite the strong performance scores, this pricey Dyson is still difficult to recommend.

On the Dyson Web site, Chief Engineer James Dyson is quoted as saying, "Our mission is simple. We solve the problems others seem to ignore." But what about the problems Dyson ignores?

That's what I was left wondering after testing out the Dyson Ball Allergy, which at the time was called the Dyson DC65, and was the newest in Dyson's long line of high-end upright vacuums. Like the models that came before it, the Ball Allergy trumpets its forward-thinking engineering, and it performs admirably when it comes time to clean. But the Ball Allergy also suffers from a few baffling build flaws -- the same flaws I found when I tested its immediate predecessor, the DC41 .

These flaws impact the vacuum's usability, undermine Dyson's claims of superior design, and make the Ball Allergy a tough sell compared to models like the Oreck Touch and the Electrolux Precision Brushroll Clean , even in spite of the fact that Dyson recently added new attachments for 2015 and cut the price from $600 down to $500.

Bagless vacuum cleaners (e.g. Dyson, Electrolux or Samsung) create centrifugal force in the air flow, which separates dust and particles from the air. Cyclones remove particles up to a size of 0.5 microns. In contrast to bag vacuum cleaners, their bagless counterparts have no suction loss. Furthermore, there are no additional costs as no bags are needed.

Properties and characteristics of a vacuum cleaner. A vacuum cleaner is a device that uses an air pump to create a partial vacuum to suck up dust and dirt, usually from floors, and optionally from other surfaces as well. The dirt is collected by either a dustbag or a cyclone for later disposal.

An der Teppichreinigungsklasse lässt sich ablesen, wie gut der Staubsauger einen Normteppich reinigt. Da Teppiche schwieriger zu reinigen sind, gelten andere Werte als beim Hartboden. Für die Klasse A des EU-Energielabels liegt die Reinigungsleistung bei 91 Prozent für die Staubaufnahme auf Teppichen. Pro Klasse sinkt der Wert um 4 Prozentpunkte. Für die Klasse G müssen es noch mindestens 67 Prozent sein. Ab September 2014 ist für Teppiche ein Mindestwert von 70 Prozent vorgeschrieben, ab 2017 dann mindestens 75 Prozent.

Dust absorption on hard surfaces

Die Hartbodenreinigungsklasse auf dem Energielabel für Staubsauger zeigt, wie gut das Gerät auf glattem Untergrund reinigt, also beispielsweise Laminat, Parkett oder Fliesen. Gemessen wird die Leistung bei maximaler Saugstufe auf einer Holzplatte, die mit einer diagonalen Ritze versehen ist. Der Unterschied zwischen den einzelnen Klassen liegt bei je drei Prozentpunkten. Ab September 2014 müssen Staubsauger auf harten Böden eine Reinigungsleistung von mindestens 95 Prozent für die Staubaufnahme auf Hartböden aufweisen. Ab 2017 steigt der Mindestwert auf 98 Prozent.

Dust emission

An der Staubemissionsklasse eines Staubsaugers lässt sich ablesen, wie sauber seine Abluft ist. Der Wert gibt an, wie viel Prozent des aufgenommenen Staubes durch das Gerät wieder abgegeben werden. Wesentlich ist hier die Filterwirkung/-qualität. Gehört das Gerät zu Klasse A, gelangen bei maximalem Luftstrom weniger als 0,02 Prozent des eingesaugten Staubs wieder in den Raum. Bei der Klasse B sind es zwischen 0,02 und 0,08 Prozent. In der Klasse G liegt der Wert bei mehr als 1,0 Prozent. Ab 2017 dürfen Staubsauger nicht mehr als 1,0 Prozent Staub wieder ausblasen.
